ABSTRACT

This study aims to systematically analyze the literature concerning the concepts, implementation, and impacts of patriotism-based character education in early childhood in Indonesia, drawing from recent research. The study follows a structured methodology comprising the formulation of research questions, development of a review protocol, systematic literature searches, screening and assessment of studies, data synthesis and analysis, and reporting and discussion of findings. Articles and literature wer retrieved from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases, with additional support from the Publish or Perish 7 application. A total of 29 articles were selected for analysis based on the inclusion criteria. The results of this study reveal that patriotism-based character education in early childhood in Indonesia involves cultivating values of nationalism, national symbols, culture, history, Pancasila principles, and tolerance. These efforts engage cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions. Implementation is carried out using creative methods and media that incorporate hands-on experiences, such as traditional games, visits to historical sites, storytelling about national figures, folklore, and digital educational media. Furthermore, this type of education positively influences the development of national attitudes, cultural appreciation, social awareness, and environmental consciousness among young children. Recognizing limitations in the scope and nature of the available evidence, this review proposes that future research prioritize: methodological strengthening (e.g., longitudinal/quasi-experimental designs); expansion of contexts to underrepresented areas (such as 3T regions); critical evaluation of digital media; in-depth analysis of micro-pedagogical processes; and the development of culturally grounded learning models.
